New website aims to grow enrolments and enhance communication

Bay of Plenty Wananga, Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi, has completed an extreme website makeover. The new website aims to grow enrolments and communicate more clearly what the Wananga has to offer as a tertiary provider, and it has already attracted an increase in traffic, according to the Maori tertiary institute.

The objectives for the upgrade also included a more efficient and effective data structure and management of the information in a way that complies with the Public Records Act, which may be a future requirement for the Wananga, says Jodie Tipping, general manager of Cucumber Software, which developed the website.

The site also delivers functionality such as multiple points of entry to course information, simultaneous comparison of up to three courses, registration of interest, and full online enrolment, she says.

The goal for the new website is to attract and retain prospective students, says Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi operations manager, Andy Katu. The students’ online experience was the main focus, with components such as email links, online enrolment, modern AV functions and simple, direct access to programme and course information built in.

The website portrays the Wananga in a modern fresh way, retaining a Maori look and feel and a sense of community, he says.

The new scalable framework was built using standard Microsoft technologies.

Cucumber Software has offices in Auckland, Napier and Tauranga.
