Awards announced at CIO Summit

Mike Foley of Watercare Services was awarded the CIO of the year Award at the CIO Summit in Auckland last night, while the award for the best ICT recruitment agency went to AbsoluteIT.

The CIO Award, sponsored by NetApp, celebrates the success of an individual CIO by recognising excellence in management, and for using technology to attain business goals. Foley became CIO of Watercare Services following a role at SkyCity as business solutions manager.

The judges said Mike Foley built the case for increased investment in ICT at Watercare, gained the support of the organisation, and increased ICT investment 10-fold from what it was previously. The result was a “significant lift in customer service, upgrading and standardising of key ICT systems and services, significant reduction in business risk to Watercare related to ICT.”

In November, Foley will take on the role of information systems manager at the new Auckland Supercity. The judges noted that as a result of improved ICT capability and systems, “Watercare is well positioned as it takes on services previously provided by the individual Auckland local authorities as the Auckland Super City is formed.”

The other finalists for the CIO Award were Liz Gosling, director of ICT Services at AUT and Peter Finch, CIO of Gen-i.

The Excellence in ICT Recruitment Award, sponsored by ITCRA, recognises outstanding delivery of recruitment services. AbsoluteIT is a New Zealand-owned and operated company with offices in Wellington, Auckland and London. A major initiative it embarked on recently is www.itsalaries.co.nz, in which ICT staffers anonymously enter salary details. So far, more than 15,000 IT professionals have entered their details, providing a rich source of data on pay and other trends in the IT industry.

The other finalists for the ICT recruitment award were Potentia, Hays and Robert Walters.

Both awards were announced at a gala dinner attended by more than 500 ICT professionals, as part of the two-day CIO Summit in Auckland this week.

Comments
CIO of the year? Interesting when the CIO award is given to someone who may not have been doing the job for the year in question. Can someone on the judging panel please explain this to us? Also how does he get the CIO position at the Auckland Council when he was part of the Transition Agency that was appointing people? ITC decisions, contracts, and true costs of the Auckland Council transition will get out( Perhaps its many many times over what has been reported)... and then we will see how everyone looks and whether NZ CIO of the year is the correct title. Sounds like awards, contracts and jobs for the boys. Journalists there is a big story here please look into it! Jobs ATA Auckland Super City Council Corruption Perhaps?

CIO of the year? Someone sounds jilted - are you an ex lover or something? Did you miss out on a position at the council? I agree with freedom of speech but surely this sort of comment is uncalled for? Grow up loser
