Critchlow to distribute data from Navteq

GIS specialist Critchlow signs deal with Nokia subsidiary

Geographical information specialist Critchlow and Associates has concluded an agreement with Navteq, now a Nokia subsidiary, to make available a range of specialist geospatial datasets to commercial and government clients.

Some of these datasets are new to the New Zealand marketplace, even though they deal with NZ features. Organisations will be able to merge the information with open GIS data, including that released by government under the expanding open data initiative.

They will also be able to use it to augment their existing corporate data for improved decision-making, Critchlow says.

One of the new datasets, Navteq Transport, is claimed to be New Zealand’s first heavy transport-specific geospatial dataset. It includes a range of data to support improved route planning and optimisation for the heavy transport sector.

Critchlow says it is already working with clients who are using this sort of data with their existing route planning systems to make savings of 25 percent or more on their fuel, travel time and distance travelled.

Critchlow has also purchased rights to the Navteq Enhanced City Model. The technology Navteq uses to capture this data, means it is a richer dataset than that which is currently available in NZ. These 3D models are used by a range of organisations including city planners who want to better understand the visual impact of a planned building development.

The Enhanced City Model includes significantly more textured 3D images than existing free-to-view data, Critchlow marketing and communications manger Jose Reader says.
