Computerworld Excellence in Government Award finalists announced

Innovative public sector IT projects make finals; winner to be announced next month

The finalists of the 2010 Computerworld Excellence in the use of IT in Government Award, sponsored by HP, have been announced.

They are: Auckland District Health Board, for Mobile TeleHealth; North Shore City Council, for Online Consenting Portal; Auckland District Health Board, for ASPIRE (Automated Sending of Patient Information to Recipients Electronically); NZ Transport Agency, for InfoConnect; the Earthquake Commission, for Field Office Deployment; and the Tertiary Education Commission, for Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool.

The Award is open to all central, regional and local government organisations and is part of the wider Computerworld Excellence Awards, in which outstanding IT projects in different sectors are recognised. For the past 11 years, Computerworld has celebrated the achievements of New Zealand’s IT industry by publicly saluting the efforts of those who successfully apply IT within their organisation.

Entrants are required to provide detailed submissions, with finalists selected on the basis of: the extent to which they have achieved their stated objectives and business case; the extent to which they have made a difference; and the benefits to the New Zealand public, among other criteria.

The winner will be announced at a function at Te Papa in Wellington on October 27.

Last year’s winner was The Department of Corrections, for the Cellular Phone Jamming Project.
