Four finalists in contention for Award named
  • Share

The finalists in the Computerworld IT Manager of the Year Award have been selected.

They are: Ken Biswell, Redvespa; Colin Philp, Gen-i; Ingird Cronin-Knight, Gen-i; and Richard Lockwood, ASB Bank.

Ken Biswell has been technical manager with Redvespa Consultants, which specialises in business analysis, for four years. His job involves delivering technical requirements for all 25 of Redvespa’s consultancy team. As well as being in charge of all the company’s systems and IT infrastructure, he is intimately involved with Redvespa’s own SaaS product, the BA Kit.

At Gen-i, Colin Philp is head of ICT operations. That role has seen him lead the development of Gen-i’s infrastructure service operations from an internally-focused ICT department to an ICT operation competing in the New Zealand outsourcing market. This large project was carried out over a year between 2009 and 2010.

Also from Gen-i, Ingrid Cronin-Knight is head of business delivery - service capability. The role involves, among other things, heading Gen-i’s End-to-End (E2E) Service Delivery Project, to transform its ICT managed service experience to increase client satisfaction, among other goals.

Richard Lockwood is head of infrastructure services at ASB Bank. He has been with the bank since 2006, starting as senior manager, network support. His time at ASB has involved comprehensive reviews of the bank’s network, telephony and security infrastructure.

The winner will be announced at the Computerworld ITEX Conference and Expo at Auckland's SkyCity Convention Centre on November 23.

The Award is held to mark the contributons of outstanding IT managers to their organisation.

Lockwood
Its good to see recognition for the truly outstanding IT managers amongst the finalists. Richard Lockwood was a rising star when I worked with him many years ago and seems to have gone from strength to strength.

Rick Lockwood What a great nominee he is for this award - he would be a deserving winner!

Perspective? 've been away for a few days and just caught up on this group of comments. I was told by someone I respect a long time ago that "we are never upset about what it is, we get upset about what is not", so I am not upset by the anonymous negative comments. It happens, and in the end I can only address feedback from people who are prepared to engage and work together on solutions.

What is a real shame is that an event like this hasn't been left to do what it can, which is to celebrate some hardworking and very capable leaders in the NZ ICT industry. Ingrid and Colin are both bloody impressive individuals I feel privileged to have in Gen-i and I was excited to see them selected as finalists. I don't know the other 2 finalists well enough but they also sound very deserving.

People who know us well know we have a pretty open culture. I spend plenty of time with folk all over the business, anyone can and does approach me, and I believe that our leaders get that clarity of connection and acting on feedback all matter in leadership. Lots of them work hard to do this well every day......though I get we are not perfect all the time, engagement results tell me its good and getting better.

If any of the anonymous contributors want to make a positive difference they can approach me direct, I will listen openly and act if appropriate.

Most importantly, thanks to Computerworld for having this event focussed on building talent. To my two guys, you both rock and we are lucky to have you in the team, best of luck guys.

Perspective? Despite the attempts to create such an open environment, it is clear that the staff is fearful of engaging in dialect in this open environment. Like most things at Gen-i it is all empty words, tick the check boxes and do not worry whether there is any substance behind them. Hearing about management travelling around the world whilst they can barely afford a camping holiday is not what leads to an open forum, but rather contributes to the US and THEM mindset.
Also to do with perspective has the fact that the success (if you can call it success at all having more values in mind than only money, money, money) is the result of huge efforts of a whole team and NOT of one single person at the top of the hierarchy. As mentioned in another post, that's having another, a wider perspective, a bigger picture in mind when asking also who's paid the price for this 'success'.

Perspective? Great to see you back your people and open the door for feedback Chris. As with XT, open and honest.

Removed comments I cannot believe some comments have been removed from this website. I guess the truth hurts and the plug had to be pulled. If only Gen-i valued its staff.

Removed comments Doubt Geni would have the ability to remove comments. The Computerworld editorial team are the only ones that would be able to do this. CW Editor?
