Canterbury University senior lecturer takes up post
By Computerworld Staff | Auckland | Tuesday, 8 March, 2011
Jade Software has appointed Dr Brent Martin as research associate, to work on the company’s JOOB Intelligence product.
JOOB is a database and middleware package that seeks to utilise smartphones and social networking.
Jade released JOOB Data Store in January, and will release JOOB Mobile, a smartphone integration product, next month. JOOB Intelligence is scheduled to follow later in the year.
Martin, who is senior lecturer at the Department of Computer Science at Canterbury University, will spend approximately 60 per cent of his time with Jade, the company says, working on JOOB.
His role at Jade will be partly funded from the $240,000 grant Jade received from the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology last year.
In a statement from Jade announcing the appointment, Jade managing director Craig Richardson says: “Brent will add tremendous value and knowledge to the development of our JOOB Intelligence product.
“We expect to launch later this year, and are targeting demanding users like banks, telcos, and intelligence and defence agencies, wishing to analyse large volumes of data in real-time.”
Jade chief technology officer Roger Jarquin says in the statement: "Jade has a long history of collaboration with Brent and other academics in the applicaiton of intelligent agents to optimisation problems.
"The agreement with the university will allow us to take that collaboration to the next level to integrate the technologies with our own products to take to market."
The company’s website describes JOOB Intelligence as “Solving hard business problems through the application of active operational intelligence.”
