Other govt agencies likely to adopt Planview under shared model
By Randal Jackson | Wellington | Tuesday, 15 March, 2011 | 2 Comments
The Ministry of Social Development has chosen Planview as its preferred supplier for an enterprise portfolio management solution.
MSD is the lead agency of a 15-agency procurement process.
CIO David Habershon says the procurement process is not yet complete, being subject to the approval of a business case and successful contract negotiations.
“If MSD enters into a contract with Planvew, it does not obligate any other agency to also contract with Planvew,” he says. “However, it is intended that the contract will contain provisions for other government agencies to join the procurement during the term of the contact.
“Given the procurement process is still under way, we are not in a position to provide any further information at this time.”
The ministry sought expressions of interest in September for a product and associated services that could be used by participating government agencies.
It indicated that the MSD contract would be a model for the other agencies.
After separate technical and financial evaluations, a short list of seven vendors was decided on a few weeks ago.
An underbidder told Computerworld a whole-of-government style contract would be worth in excess of $10 million.
“It’s essentially about a whole-of-government enterprise licence in perpetuity,” the vendor says.
The Department of Labour already has a Planview solution.
Planview is represented in New Zealand by Activate New Zealand.

Procurement policies based on "best of bread boutique" is far more likely to succeed than vast hegemony.

Transparency is needed
Anything to make Government more transparent is a good thing. Although looking at Activates company profile leaves me worried that activate could execute on such a large contract. $10m does seem alot for such a small NZ Company to stand behind.
