Systems such as email, GIS and records management move onto Watercare's platforms
By Rob O'Neill | Auckland | Friday, 16 April, 2010
The Supercity consolidation of water services in Auckland will see many functions in the existing six water retailers migrated onto of Watercare's platforms, says Gary Swift, Watercare's general manager of finance.
Email will be consolidated onto Watercare's Microsoft's Exchange installation, while geographic information will move to Watercare's ESRI system.
Records management systems will be consolidated onto Bentley Systems' ProjectWise software.

Physical and virtual server hosting and storage for the systems is outsourced. Swift was not prepared to name the provider.
Swift was not prepared to give numbers on current and future IT staffing levels, saying is was very hard to calculate given that water services form only one part of the IT functions of some of the six retail service providers.
Some staff from providers such as Franklin District Council, Rodney District Council and North Shore City will go to the Auckland Council and some to the new amalgamated water services provider.
"We are still working through that," he says.
