ICT services provider Unisys has inked deal with long-term customer PSIS for a service oriented architecture (SOA) project to improve efficiency and enhance service to the financial co-operative's customers.
Unisys says the four-year contract includes project management, systems integration and infrastructure services.
A new financial lending module is the first phase of the project, followed by replacement of the core transaction system and the implementation of a number of other new systems.
SOA is an architecture that enables applications to exchange information more readily and improves business flexibilty.
“By continually implementing IT enhancements we can maintain an edge in technology and provide expanded services to help customers protect their financial assets,” says Annette Natta, general manager of information services at PSIS in a statement.
Under the contract, Unisys will deliver two Unisys ClearPath Libra Model 690 mainframe servers; its e-Portal solution; two EMC storage area networks (SAN); and eight Unisys ES7000 Model 7405R enterprise servers running Microsoft Windows.
PSIS and Unisys boast a 40-year relationship.
The deal comes a week after another deal with 30-year meat processing customer Alliance Group. Unisys announced last week that Alliance would become the first organisation in the world to install Unisys' ES7000 Model 7405R enterprise server.
Unisys will supply and install two ES7000 servers and two EMC CX3 storage area networks, to allow farmer-owned co-operative Alliance to consolidate and virtualise its server environment as well as boosting disaster recovery and backup for the company’s Microsoft Windows and Novell Netware environments.
Alliance, which produces meat products from lamb, sheep, cattle and deer, is one of New Zealand’s largest exporters of wool, pelts, hides, casings, meal and tallow.
The ES7000 Model 7405R can support multiple operating environments, including Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and 2003 Datacentre, enterprise and standard editions; Microsoft Virtual Server; Red Hat Enterprise Linux; SUSE Linux Enterprise Server; and Sun Microsystems Solaris 10. They support up to eight quad-core AMD Opteron processors.
