ASX-listed Pie Networks has announced its rollout of 69 second generation hotspot webphones in Westfield and AMP shopping centres in New Zealand is 50 percent complete.
The rollout, begun in late October last year for Westfield shopping centres, was expanded in late November to include AMP Capital shopping centres.
The phones, which replaced existing pay phones, offer traditional pay phone calls with the addition of internet access, SMS, digital product upload/download, wi-fi capability, internet banking access, and pre-paid phone top-ups.
In an ASX statement the company said take up of the service had been encouraging with the webphone service exceeding expectations in 75 percent of the network.
The company said it was also in discussions with a number of companies to deliver additional content and services to the network of webphones in New Zealand.
It added that it was also receiving interest for the webphones in Australia, South Africa and Mexico.
